Shocking Story

Ik doe veel techniek en wetenschap in mijn scenario's, maar zo'n simpel onderwerp als "electriciteit" had ik nog niet gedaan met Midas. Hoog tijd, temeer omdat het mijn vaders beroep was en Midas me vaak aan hem doet denken. Ik ben dol op die vader-zoon relatie in de wolvenstrips.
Maar in dit scenario komt Wolfje pas in de laatste acte het toneel op, dus hier spelen die relatiedrama's niet zo.
Ik stel me natuurlijk graag voor dat mijn vader er om gelachen zou hebben, maar in feite vond hij strips maar ingewikkeld om te lezen. Hij vatte dat mengsel van plaatjes en tekst niet, en hield zich bij boekenlezen, waar hij dol op was.

I put lots of science and technology in my stories, but I never yet did a simple subject like "electricity" with Zeke. High time, especially since this was my father's profession and Zeke often makes me think of him. I am very fond of this father-son relationship in the wolf comics.
However, in this story Li'l Bad Wolf appears only in the last act, so this time there is not much relational drama.
Of course I imagine gladly my father being amused by this story, but in fact he found comics too complicated to figure out. He didn't get their mix of text and drawings, and stuck to reading books, which he really enjoyed.

Sexy Piggies

De reden voor deze Midas, (want er is altijd een reden), was dat ik een scène wilde waarin de biggetjes als een soort van sexy pinups Midas uitdagen om ze in de pan te stoppen. Ze betasten hun vetrolletjes om te zien of Midas ze kan weerstaan en slaan verleidelijke taal uit.
Zoiets kan als Midas zijn geheugen kwijt is en niet meer weet dat biggetjes lekker zijn, of als het Midas niet is. Of nog twintig andere mogelijkheden, die ik vastbesloten ben ook nog eens te schrijven.
Deze keer hield ik het simpel: het is Midas niet. En de scène is niet eens de hoofdscène geworden. De rest is ook leuk. (Hoop ik.)

The reason for this Zeke story, (as there is always a reason), was I wanted to do a scene where the pigs would taunt Zeke like a bunch of sexy pinups to put them into the frying pan. They would touch their rolls of fat to see if Zeke could withstand them and they would speak seductive words.
This could be possible if Zeke lost his memory and forgot that pigs are delicious, or if it is not Zeke. Or twenty other possibilities that I am determined to write one day.
This time I kept it simple: it is not Zeke. And the scene is not even the principal scene. The rest is funny too. (I hope.)

Torture Instrument

In Frankrijk wordt iedereen klus-expert. In Holland kon ik net een spijker in een plank slaan, en in Frankrijk bouwden we douches, toiletten, zoldervloeren, verandas en zelfs twee zwembaden.
Allemaal heel inspirerend voor scenario's. (En ik kan garanderen dat de technische details van dit Midas-verhaal volledig correct zijn.)

In France, everyone becomes a DIY expert. In Holland, I just knew how to drive a nail into a plank, that's all, and in France we built shower stalls, toilets, attic floors, loggias and even two swimming pools.
All this is very inspiring for stories. (And I can guarantee that the technical details in this Zeke story are completely correct.)

Ur-Schweine

Dit was weer een drietrapsverhaal, in de zin dat er twee correctieslagen nodig waren om tot dit perfecte resultaat te komen. Het idee was een verhaal zonder Wolf en helemaal teruggrijpend op het oerverhaal van de Drie Biggetjes. De eerste versie ging tot bladzij 3 en eindigde daar op het een-na-laatste plaatje. Een luchtig niemendalletje vond ik, en helaas vond de redactie dat ook, want ze bleven zitten met honger naar de rest. Het vervolg presenteerde zich eigenlijk vanzelf door de verwisseling logisch door te trekken naar Midas Wolf. Klassiek theater, waar ik zo dol op ben. Maar de redactie vond het idee van de Gekke Varkens Ziekte als ontknoping niet zo geslaagd en Midas ook te terughoudend in zijn handelen. Dus werd Midas wat meer Midas en moest de Sheriff er maar bij komen om het verhaaltje uit te blazen.

This scenario started with just the first three pages. I wanted to write a story with only the piggies and no Wolf, going back to the original ur-story where they are carefree musicians.
It was a light little comedy, but the editors deemed it too light and hungered for something more substantial.
The continuation presented itself by expanding the misunderstanding to Zeke Wolf. Classic theatre, such as I adore.

Only the editors thought the Mad Pig Disease as a denouement not in excellent taste, and Zeke not assertive enough.
So Zeke became a little Zeker and the Sheriff had to blow this story to an end.
